Rick Sieves' France 2003
Rick Steves' does it again with his excellent guide book touting France, Belgium & the Netherlands. Steves uses his years as a professional traveler to tell fellow travelers the best sites to see, including the hidden, back door wonders, of these wonderful countries. Steves provides helpful tips and and history about getting around and the way to budget time and money visiting these European countries. I like this guide book because it combines accommodations, attractions, connections and restaurants all in one convenient, pocket sized book that is easy to carry around.
France : Green Guide (4th Ed)
by Michelin
The Michelin Green Guide series provides tourist information as well as mini tours for just about every tourist attraction that you can think of in France. Very useful if you want to set out on your own and find the romantic, hole in the wall places that other guide books ignore. Also provides maps and a fairly accurate rating system of the sites. I enjoy the detailed descriptions of towns and areas that it has as well as the detailed mini tours it contains for most sites.

The Rough Guide to
France, 5th edition
Provides useful information about places that Rick Steves misses. Good as a supplemental guide for those who plan to go to sites not mentioned in Rick's book. However it would be best to photocopy from this comprehensive guide and take just the places you plan to go. Also, I noticed that the info can get out of date in Rough Guides.
The Lonely Planet:
France, 3rd edition
This mega guide provides useful information about the history and culture of France. It also provides accurate and insightful descriptions of cities. Included for each city are brief reviews of accommodations and restaurants. The guide also provides facts you need to know about traveling through france. Being a mega guide, it is best to photocopy the parts of where you plan on going.
Paris Guide Books
Rick Sieves' Paris   Rick Steves' does Paris the justice it deserves providing a complete guidebook full of history, sites and even tours for this marvelous French city. From budget hotels to the hidden, out of the way marvel, this is the complete Paris guidebook.
Michelin Green Guide Paris   The green guide provides a good combination of history, culture, customs and facts about this marvelous city. The Paris Green Guide covers the basic locations, as well as the more charming, hole in the wall romantic sites that you will kick your self if you miss. What I like is that the green guide provides a history of the sites, tours for major sites, as well as rates the sites. The green guide also provides maps to help you find your way around.(Of course, Michelin wants you to buy their more comprehensive maps of the city as well)
Lonely Planet:Paris History, culture and hotel listings for Paris.
Eyewitness Paris Many people like this book because of its detailed pictures. People say they like this because they know what a church/painting/statue is and do not have to guess. I read it before I left and then, to save wait, left it at home.
A food lover's Guide to Paris A food lover's Guide to France Gourmet Paris The name says it all.
Other Guide Books

These guide books seem popular but I have never read them so I can not give any feedback on them.
Eyewitness France Detailed pictures and info for the most popular places in France.
Fodor's 2003 France Looks good, I liked the Egypt book by them.
