A Run Through The Jungles of Sumatra

Part III

This is the Third part of my pictures from Sumatra. Again, there is no real pattern in how they are displayed, there are less rain forest pictures and more of things and views. If you have any questions, comments or would like to see more please feel free to E-mail me, jpolos@stmarys-ca.edu

Note, all of these photos were taken with a cannon sprint, fixed focus camera, using Kodak 200 Gold color film.

All pictures are thumbnails, click on picture or title for larger image.

"Mosaic"
When I took this photo I was trying to get the waterfall in the background as we passed by. It was an attractive picture in that. But what makes this picture truly interesting is the mosaic of colors across the center. It is there completely by accident. No one could reproduce this. Feel free to e-mail me with a guess of what did this. I do think I know what caused it though. Outdoor, Natural light photo.

"House"
I am not quite sure what this house was, It was to small to be a "kings" house, yet it is still fairly fancy. I think it was off to the side of a "kings" house. Notice the peeks on the roof. That was a status symbol as you will see in the next two pictures. Outdoor, Natural light photo.

"Kings House"
This is a Kings hut. As you can see it is a quite ornate construction. This is actually a reconstruction of the original one that burned down. Though ornate on the outside it is just one large room with several chambers off to the side for sleeping. Outdoor, Natural light photo.

"Kings Palace"
This is another Kings hut but of a different king. (There were a lot of kings.) As you can see it to is very ornate. In this picture you can see all the points the roof comes to. That was a status symbol. This house is still lived in by descendants. I believe the smaller house up front on stilts is for grain(rice) storage. Outdoor, Natural light photo.

"Lake Meneji"
This is a view of lake Meneji. This lake was a very popular vacation spot for people who live in Sumatra. In fact we almost had to stay at a place that charged by the hour. fortunately we found another place to stay. Outdoor, Natural light photo.

"Scenic Lake"
This is another view of lake Meneji. As you can see this is a very calm and serene lake. I don't know if there was any history to this lake, We got there late in the after noon with three days to go and all we wanted to to was rest. Then an emergency made us leave the very next morning so we didn't learn much about it. Outdoor, Natural light photo.
