In the summer of 1997 I had the chance to travel through Italy. There I found that Italy was everything that people claimed it was and more. On my brief tour of the country, I was saw over two thousand years of history, ate rich food and got to a taste of the Italian culture. I saw some of the most splendid cities on the face of the earth. In my brief time in Italy I saw some of the most romantic and beautiful towns in Europe. In all I saw seven "towns" The first three need no explanation Florence, Rome and Venice. The other four cities I visited to are well known to travelers to Italy but less to outsiders. Siena was a one time powerful city state, that after the plague and foul play by Florence ended up getting preserved as a truly gothic style town. Cinque Terre is a series of five towns on the Italian Riviera that you can hike between along the coast and or go swimming. They are really close together and a train connects them all. Pompeii is one of the towns Mt. Vesuvius buried in 79 A.D. when it destroyed the surrounding area in an large eruption. Thus preserving a first century town for historians and archaeologists alike. Paestum is a set of Greek ruins in the southern part of Italy near Pompeii. Its interesting to see these ruins and then travel to Greece and see other Greek ruins and compare the two. Lastly, I have put a link to my pictures from Corfu, Greece because one, that is where I went after Italy and two it the island was on the map so why not include it. I hope you enjoy the photos, unfortunately I was conserving film still when I was in Italy. That just means I'll have to go back some day and take more photos.

In the summer of 1999 I had a chance to visit Italy again on my way from Spain to Greece. On this latest trip I visited the northern parts of Italy again. Over all I had five stops, two of which I had visited before (Cinque Terre and Florence, two of my favorite spots in Italy.). However, on this trip I was able to see three impressive sites that I missed on my first trip and that I am very glad I came back for. The first one was Pisa with its famous leaning tower. I also saw the towns of Assisi and San Gimignano. Assisi was the home of St. Francis and the Franciscan monks and has managed to pay a tribute to him with impressive mural in the churches built in his honor. San Gimigano was a simi-powerful city state with fuding nobles that built huge towers to shoot at each other from.

One day I plan on returning to Italy. Again to the north to visit the Alps, the Dolomites and the area around Venice. Of course I will have to go to Cinque Terre (By way of Milan) and perhaps Florence. But until that day, please enjoy the photos I have provided. Any comments, please E-mail me, .
