My overall reason for selecting these books (if you look at my other pages, you WILL notice a pattern, is that I have had good experiences with them, and fellow travelers have recommended them. Rick Steves' Great Britain & Ireland
  Rick Steves combines history, accommodations, and restaurants in this easy to carry guide book. Steves' back door philosophy enables travels to experience the most England and Ireland have to offer you. He gives you insightful information on the sites and museums as well as a good rating of the sites. Furthermore, Steves provides an insightful commentary for accommodations as well.

Michelin Green Guide : Ireland (3rd Ed)
  Like the other green guides, this green guide combines mythology, culture, and history into this insightful guide. The green guide rates the sites as well as provides important information about them. For the larger sites, it provides maps, and tours. This guide book is great companion to for Rick Steves' book.
Lonely Planet Ireland    This mega guide provides you with a detailed list of accommodations, sites and restaurants. The guide also provides the traveler with a comprehensive history of the island. This guide lists any where you could imagine going in Ireland. unfortunately, its huge so you may only want to include the portions where you want to go.
Rough Guide Ireland(2003)    Like the Lonely Planet, this mega guide provides you with detailed history, and cultural information about Ireland. This guide also provides a detailed list of accommodations, as well as brief bits of history about various towns. This guide book was published this year so it should have up to date information about Ireland.
Other Guide Books

These guide books seem popular but I have never read them so I can not give any feedback on them.
Let's Go Ireland Many people find Let's Go to be a bit large and confusing. However, it is written by students and it sells thousands of copies so I guess some people like it. (Currently out of print so perhaps not)
Eyewitness Ireland Many people like this book because of its detailed pictures. It lets you know what to expect before you get there.
Bed and Breakfast Ireland For the laid back traveler.
Fodor's Ireland Since these guides seem so popular.
Independent Walker's Guide to Ireland 35 terrific walks around this green island to let you take in the true beauty of it.
